The Mentalist 04x11 - Always Bet on Red 

While I think the recent seasons, barring a few episodes, haven’t been as good as the first, I really like how the Jane-Lisbon professional relationship is evolving. As with so many of these shows, Jane started off as the main detective/doctor/lawyer who is quirky and unorthodox but manages to get results, thus justifying his behavior and the show. While I particularly liked Mentalist’s support characters, they were always just that, to support Jane.

But recently, and some may not like this, Jane’s begun to lose his infallibility and Lisbon’s beginning to show herself to be his equal, or at least his balance. He is confiding in her and they are sharing opinions and advice and it’s such a refreshing contrast to the tired old wait-till-the-end-when-I-reveal-all.

We have this person spewing slut-shaming hate, calling Sarah a “filthy hoebag” for daring to interfere with the person’s OTP. And on top of that, Sarah’s apparently a liar too. Why is she a liar? Because this person’s ship is “meant to be.” Great logic there, person.

I wish I had screencapped the tweet before they deleted it, because I’d be reblogging every one of these bullshit posts with the Mentalist writers’, “That’s right. Rigsby is a baby daddy” quote. No more text than that, just the tweet. Unfortunately, I think they deleted the tweet because it broke some kind of spoiler rule. The only place it still exists is in the timelines of people who retweeted it not using Twitter’s web interface.

It’s perfectly okay to be upset about a ship being tanked or broken up or interfered with or whatever, but it is not okay ever to denigrate a woman like this.

I like Rigspelt. I would like the pair of them to get back together. The baby idea bothers me only a teeny tiny bit, and in the same way Van Pelt’s wedding did - I prefer when characters are still single or at least not definitively settled down and can flirt, mess about etc. It’s more fun. But if that’s where the show is going, it’s where it’s going.

Sarah is sweet as hell okay. Being with someone doesn’t reduce a woman’s status.
